# Schema Registry failing due to number of partitions of internal topic

Having problems getting our Schema Registry container to spin up due to error:

`_schemas topic should only have 1 partition but has 10`

What would be the best method of correcting this issue and not losing any needed data?

Can the topic merely be deleted and recreated with only a single partition?
