Despite not having a clearer message, this error is related to the ‘metricsHttpTimeout’ parameter, where Lenses did not receive the MSK metrics response in time. In Lenses version 5.4, this issue is resolved allowing you to set this metric during the MSK broker configuration. If you are not on the latest version of Lenses, you would need to run some commands in the Lenses-CLI as described in another AskMarios post:
